Joel Gilbert, EIT – Engineer In Training
Soon after completing his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University in 2019 in Environmental Engineering, Joel joined Woodson. He brings a strong interest in civil engineering disciplines and relevant course work in water resources, hydrologic modeling, chemical and biological wastewater treatments, as well as stormwater systems. He continues to develop strong skills and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS and other similar software such as HEC-RAS, Flow Master, Culvert Master, and Water GEMS.
BS, Environmental Engineering, Northern Arizona University
Dogtown Waterline, City of Williams – This project involves survey and design of 15 miles of new waterlines. Joel is working on determining the alignment, as well as preliminary design.
GIS Mapping, City of Winslow – Joel has been migrating our extensive utilities systems data from AutoCAD into GIS. He has helped to prepare the Winslow GIS database containing the City’s infrastructure information including water and wastewater systems, stormwater systems and flood data. This new map allows City field crews to quickly locate water valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and pipe locations while in the field with user friendly software on a mobile device.
Timber Sky Residential Development, Flagstaff – Joel has assisted with providing post-design services for this 200-acre, 1500-unit in west Flagstaff along Route 66.
Better Place Forest Development, Coconino County – The developer is planning a site that will offer a more sustainable and affordable alternative to traditional burial in a cemetery. The site is located on private land in mixed aspen-pine forest and meadows on the north side of the San Francisco Peaks. Joel has prepared the Conditional Use Permits, the Phase I Drainage Report and a Traffic Impact Statement.
Route 66 Autoplaza Development, Flagstaff – This is a new 4,500 s.f., multi-tenant commercial building including new parking and landscaping on an existing developed property. Joel is assisting with the approval process including preparation of the Concept Plan Application to submit with the City of Flagstaff. He has prepared the floodplain exhibit, grading and drainage plan and utility plan for the City application.
Top of the Woods Flooding Mitigation, Town of Pinetop Lakeside – Joel has assisted in the preparation of exhibits for improvements needed as a result of a flooding incident in August 2019. Our team has delineated watershed boundaries, calculated flow rates, correlated storm events and rainfall depths and provided flooding mitigation design solutions.
